The Carnival of Cinema: Episode 42 – Casabloga

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Carnival of Cinema. This is the weekly carnival that presents the best in cinema related posts from around the world.

Each week you can count on the carnival for great movie reviews, industry advice and film commentary.

We have a load of goodies this week.
Let’s kick things off with a KABOOM.

I’d like to thank Mike Blitz of KABOOM REVIEW for hosting the Carnival this week. Mike’s site is a great place to find reviews of the best in big action films. This week he takes a look at the big action film Transformers.

If Mike likes action movies, he’s going to love what Conan has to say.

It is here! The official trailer for Conan Stevens’ movie Bangkok Adrenaline is not available. Conan has been giving us the blow by blow on the production for quite some time now. Head over to TALL MUSCLE ACTORS WEBSITE to see the fruits of his labor.

Congratulations to Conan, I hope the film is a great success.

Another trailer that has hit is for JJ Abrams’ Cloverfield. This upcoming monster movie has gotten a great deal attention that has been instigated by a solid online marketing campaign. If you’re interested in this movie look to I DO THINGS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO. JD wasted his weekend on this thing and has the latest.

With the loving attention this thing has gotten Cloverfield better be the Citizen Kane of monster movies.

Continuing on the thought of action movies and success, Ant of THE BEEF JERKY BLOG has a look at the three entrepreneurial things he learned from watching the sanguine film 300.
It’s not often one can pick up useful business tips from greased up, half naked men hitting each other.

There’s a joke there involving picking up tips from half naked men but this is a family site. Perhaps we should move on.

Hey, who loves German expressionism and kammerspielfilm?

Gautam Valluri loves German expressionism and kammerspielfilm, that’s who. He has two posts on the subject Part one is here and Part two is here. Find out more about the works of Robert Weine and Fritz Lang over at BROKEN PROJECTOR.

Ah, the Germans. You got to love em’…well, until they start working in large groups.

Keeping our eye on the past we now look at the present passing of two master filmmakers Antonioni and Bergman. JON SWIFT provides the two with his frank opinion on their work over at his site. He wasn’t a fan.

Antonioni’s films may have been artsy, indulgent and coherent but he could have been worse. An easy example that springs to mind is Michael Bay's fumbling efforts.

WHERE THOUGHTS ESCAPE is the place where Darren reviews Bay’s latest effort Transformers. I believe Darren disagrees with me on the subject of Bay’s abject lack of talent. To see his thoughts, click here.

That’s the great thing about the carnival, we have a diverse collection on opinions here.
If you’re short on opinions, ask Paul McElligott for one. He’s got plenty to spare.

This week’s spate of reviews from CELLULOID HEROES includes Jaws, Ratatouille, The Thin Red Line, Guadalcanal Diary and Blade Runner.

Usually, Paul has a theme he’s working through, war movies, spy movies, etc. Looking at this week’s offerings, I guess the theme is “Films I’ve Sat in Front of Recently.”

General Disdain has sat in front of The Simpsons Movie. He has a look at the television hit that has finally gone cinematic over at his site THE CRITICAL CRITICS. Check this one out, he nails it.

Another figure who has made the trip from TV to the big screen is George Clooney. Wendy has him on her site HUNKY BLOG – TRY NOT TO DROOL.

If George doesn’t make you drool, Evan might.

Evan Almighty
will have you nodding off by the second act. To see the trailer, head over to THEATER MOVIE TRAILER REVIEWS. Jones Hansen has the trailer and tons more.

Would Noah have brought just two or all four of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the arc?

With a blog titled AIDS HAS YET TO FIND ME, you know going in its going to be interesting. Michael of aforementioned blog, reviews the TMNT movie. Go see what he has going on.

We end the movie reviews this week with a bit of Pottery.

Lionel Pillar of MOVIE REVIEWS ONLINE has a movie review online for the latest from the wimpy wizard. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a big success. Check out Pillar’s POV to see if you agree.

The next Potter portion is from Blue Skeleton. Our new friend B.S. has a review of Potter – Miss Potter at THE LITERARY JUNKIE.

Apparently, he smokes through a lot of books.

Next is a great post from Carnival newcomer Frankk. He has a great post explaining what it is like writing scripts for a living. Head over to SCREENWRITING GOLDMINE to see this insightful article.

This last one I put at the end so nobody with a movie review would feel like they were being targeted.
Hey, don’t trust critics? Do movie reviewers lead you astray and waste your time? Madeleine Begun Kane has something to say about it. Specifically she has a poem on the subject (along with a suvey). Go to MAD KANE'S HUMOR BLOG to read her stuff...

…and CUT!…and PRINT!

Thanks to everyone for their submissions. Another great set of posts.
Do you have an opinion or article about the film industry? Have you reviewed a film or DVD? Have any tips on breaking into the biz? Send submissions HERE for next week’s edition.

Be the first blog on your street to post in the Carnival of Cinema.

Hi- Thanks for the great episode of the carnival and the mention of my posts (Broken Projector). Just one thing I'd like to point out to you- you seem to have made a mistake while giving the credit to Broken Projector- Its not FrankK, Broken Projector is owned by Gautam Valluri(me).

Thanks again for the inclusion of my articles, I'm really glad that you like them- also I enjoyed all the links posted above.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers!
