THE CARNIVAL OF CINEMA: EPISODE XXXIII – DR. STRANGEBLOG
| Salutations! Welcome to the Carnival of Cinema, a weekly display of the best cinema related posts on the net. Our stocks are full this week, so let’s jump right on in. To start us out this week with a helping hand. Josh Johnson offers free software to use in the filmmaking process. If you’re a filmmaker, or even know a filmmaker, and are looking for some useful applications that won’t cost an arm and a leg, head over to CAROLINA FLICKS to learn more. Geez, that sounded like a commercial. E.T. and Gjoka sitting in a tree… Nick Gjoka loves E.T. Yeah, that E.T., Spielberg’s little green waddler from the 80’s. The SCRIBBLEKING landed the interview of a lifetime. Click here to read more. E.T. isn’t the only outcast getting attention here at the carnival. Creeps get love too. For example, there’s Ed Gein The Zodiac Killer and Paul Abdul get the nod over at THE WORKS AND GENIUS OF DAVID FINCHER . FincherFanatic has a link to an article about serial killers and the movies they inspired. He also has something he calls the "Paula Abdul Quadriology". Like creepy? Then you must love David Lynch. DREAMINGLIFE explains the dreamlike quality of Lynch’s films Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive. Enough of the creepy guys, let’s look at a German. Fatih Akin won the screenwriting award at Cannes for penning Auf der anderen seite. Michael Leahy has a quick look at this piece over at SCREENPLAY EUROPE. Since we’ve got our eyes on Germany, Paul McElligott has a great review of The Good German. You can always rely on Paul’s site CELLULOID DREAMS for interesting movie reviews. We move from Germany to France. ZENOFELLER also has a brief post, this one looks at the French comedy L'Aille ou la Cuisse. Carnival regular Jason Hooker let’s you in on how to learn more about Animal Logic’s work on 300. Run over to DIGITAL FILM CREW to find out more, in particular if you plan to be in Australia on June 6th. Guess what, two important artists are trying their hand at collaborative video art. Filmmaker Atom Egoyan and artist Kutlag Ataman are teaming up to construct a multimedia installation in Toronto. Lean more by reading Hrag Vartanian’s post at Hrag Vartanian ‘s site HRAGVARTANIAN.COM. From brilliance to…well… Lindsay Lohan has hit a spot of trouble. Is she more than a joke? Is she a part of a larger trend? Read Karen Halls’ post on the subject at ADDICTION RECOVERY BLOG. Let’s take a look at another lady with addition issues, this time is film addiction. Lindsey of ZEE SAYS=FILM ADDICT + TEEN LIBRARIAN has a review of Away From Her. This film stars Julie Christie as an institutionalized woman who has Alzheimer's disease. JONATHAN DEAMER dips into his archive to bring us his review of Walk the Line. Walk the Line is a great film about addiction, recovery and faith – not to mention some of the best American music ever. I thought we were trying to lighten things up? If you visit THE CRITICAL CRITICS, you will find that Disdain has a review of the lukewarm Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Looking to TOPMOVIE, Alexius looks at Shrek the Third. Once you’re done with that review stick around and read some more. There’s plenty of good work happening there. Seraphim Falls is a western starring James Bond and Qui-Gon Jinn. MovieReviewer has the word over at FREE MOVIE REVIEWS. Go there and find out “that this is more than just a chase film, it's actually about a journey of initiation.” The Carnival’s favorite therapist Therapydoc takes on the influence of Rocky Balboa. Rocky really does inspire people. Who knew? Check out EVERYONE NEEDS THERAPY. Gracchi can always be counted to come through with insightful, intelligent posts. He does it again. This week over at WESTMINSTER WISDOM he has a full review of Goddard’s Vivre sa vie: Film en douze tableaux. To finish up the reviews this week, Vedavyasa has apparently tried to review every other film ever made. Go to VED'S 70MM-MOVIES, TV & ENTERTAINMENT to read reviews of Spider-Man 3, The Reaping, Déjà vu, Beerfest, Venom, Dark Water, and The Cave. To close us out this week, Vishal k Bharadwaj has a fun post looking at the top five films you never thought someone would produce (but thank God they did.) Go to ALLVISHAL.COM to see the list. …and CUT!…and PRINT! Thanks to everyone for their submissions, the selection of posts gets better each week! Hey, why have your posts collect dust in your archive folder? The Carnival of Cinema is ongoing with submissions being taken through each Wednesday and posting every Friday. Send submissions HERE!
