THE CARNIVAL OF CINEMA: EPISODE XXXII: BLOG WITH THE WIND

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Carnival of Cinema. Each week we present the best in movie reviews, interviews, film commentary and industry advice. We have a full docket this week, so let’s jump right in.

One of my favorite parts of the carnival is all of the free advice given nearly every week.

What kind of advice can you find?

I thought that would get your attention.

Head over to Matt’s CINEMA ADVANCED for more.

Sometimes, the advice isn’t really cinema specific.

Sometimes, the posts aren’t really cinema specific either.

What the heck, its an interesting post just the same. Head over to CHINA LAW BLOG and read what Dan Harris has to say about how not to do business in China.

When it comes to industry advice there’s no one more prolific than Conan.

Carnival regular and former host, Conan Stevens is very generous with his advice on how to make it in the industry. This week he offers two posts for your perusal. From his site ACTORS AND ACTING INFORMATIONAL BLOG, Conan provides his thoughts on the question, “Working As A Movie Extra Should You Do It?” Next, Mr. Stevens has some great news, he’s signed on to be in a new film titled Som Tam. He is set to have some fun brawling in the final act. Look to TALL MUSCLE ACTOR BLOG for the latest.

It’s not all advice here, there are also posts that celebrate all things film.

FincherFanatic operates a site named THE WORKS AND GENIUS OF DAVID FINCHER. This site is stuffed with all things Fincher (director of Zodiac and Se7en.) During the last week, FincherFanatic added a couple of TV spots and features about David Fincher recent serial killer drama Zodiac, as well as some original newscast footage from 1969, documenting the Zodiac case. On the site you can also find a lovely little Penis Song from Fight Club.

This month over at FJETSAM, James Squires has been running Grindhouse Trailers. He has aa series of different trailers from the days of Grindhouse cinema. Click here to see a list that will continue to be updated until the end of the month.

Like Kurosawa? Who doesn’t? Lindsey certainly does and you can click over to ZEE SAYS=FILM ADDICT + TEEN LIBRARIAN to see a post about the master director and his influence on world cinema.

If people talking about other people ain’t your thing, how about people talk to people?

SCRIBBLEKING Patrick Rijnders has a facinating interview with movie editor Patrick Don Vito. I love interviews with the people who labor behind the scenes. First of all, they never get the credit they deserve, and secondly they usually have very candid views on the industry you’d never hear come out of an actor or director’s mouth.

The Carnival of Cinema would not be complete without a slew of some of the best film reviews out there.

We begin this week’s batch of reviews with a GREG LADEN’s look at the power of Randy Olson’s documentary Flock of Dodos. Laden also gives a tip of the cap to The Corporation.

Next, we go to Paul McElligott who has a the final word of Tim Burton’s goofy flick Beetlejuice. McElligott has some of my favorite reviews over at his site CELLULOID HEROES.

Another chap who knows who to consistently kick out thoughtful and interesting movie reviews is Gracchi of WESTMINSTER WISDOM. This week Gracchi looks at Gillo Pontecorvo’s classic, The Battle of Algiers.

Have you ever seen the best action movie ever made? Samir has. Here’s a look:

Perhaps it will make more sense if you go to SAMIRBHARADWAJ.COM and read the post.

Clay Mabbitt is a man of few words. His site SINGLESENTENCEMOVIEREVIEW.COM proves it. This week he plys his pithy workdplay on the passable Patch Adams.

To quote my brother-in-law:

Yeah hey, isn’t that the movie where Robin Williams plays the enlightened funny man? No wait, that’s ALL of his films.

Nick of ONLY THREE NOTES takes a quick look at the Halle Berry/Bruce Willis flick Perfect Stranger as well as the Kate Beckinsale/Luke Wilson flick Vacancy.

Earlier in the year Frank Miller’s 300 made a huge splash. Perhaps time will temper some critic’s acclaim. MOVIEREVIEWER has an honest look at the film.

Let’s take a look at what we can look at in the theatres right now.

We have a trio of thirds.

Spider-Man 3 is still going strong despite mixed reviews. If you click over to TOPMOVIES you will find that Alexius has something to say about the third movie in the franchise about a boy in tights hopping around town.

The big release last week was yet another third in a series. This time it is Shrek the Third. Vaprak of THE CRITICAL CRITICS gets critically critical of this McMovie.

Finally, this week the third of the Pirates of the Caribbean films Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End hits theatres. As usual, Matt Adcock has already seen what the rest of us are still waiting in line to view. He has the review over at DARKMATTERS – THE MIND OF MATT.

…and CUT!…and PRINT!

Thank you, Nehring, for all of your hard work on this. I really appreciate it. And I will try to submit every week. My other blog carnival only posts once a month. So it is harder to keep up, but easier to remember with your blog carnival.
