CARNIVAL OF CINEMA EPISODE VIII: LIVE & LET BLOG

Welcome to the eighth installment of The Carnival of Cinema. We have eight editions and things keep getting better. We have many of the regulars posting this week and a slew of new faces entering the fray. Sit back and enjoy the best in movie reviews and commentary available on the web.

We’ll start with the big cinematic question this weekend. Will James blond have the stuff to beat down the babbling Borat?

Matt Adcock from DARKMATTERS kicks the battle off with his sharp review of the new James Bond film Casino Royale. It's done great in Great Britain and there’s high expectations in the States.

From a James Bond that scowls to Kazakhstan’s most foul:

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan is still number one in the United States. Azmi Mufti of AMERICAN DESI NOTES offers support to the legally challenged champion of the box office.

James Bond and Borat, I see the best buddy movie of all time in the making. It can be titled: Brought Away From Russian Country for Means of Show Love.

It can’t be any worse than the self-important dreck George Clooney churns out.

Ever wonder who was the poor soul who sat through the steaming pile of goo known as Solaris? I have your answer. It was Sarakastic of GILMORE GIRL FANATIC. She’s seen the movie, now you don’t have to. Head over to her place and offer her your sympathy.

I’m sure Sarakastic would like to dig the memories of Solaris out of her mind. It seems like the makers of Saw III may have some advice on how to get that done.

The Neurophilosopher makes his return to the Carnival with some carnage. On his site THE NEUROPHILOSOPHER he begins with Saw III and moves to introduce you to the very creepy Japanese film Audition. He’ll get you to consider both movies, even if torture isn’t your cup of tea.

Apparently Saw III isn’t the only pile of trash Hollywood is spewing…

Vihar Sheth has a great post. Head over to GREENRISING and see how Hollywood is spoiling this fine Earth. There are some surprising facts to be found there.

Maybe Hollywood should stop recycling crappy 70’s movies and start recycling more paper, glass and cans

Well, if you want to change Hollywood your best bet is getting involved in the industry. Want to get into the biz? Brian C. Lee has some outstanding advice for those on the outside looking in. Check out GENIUSTYPES.COM and read his thoughts on how to break into the film industry.

Of course the best route to fame is being the spoiled, mildly interesting child of famous parents. It worked for lightweight Gwyneth Paltrow. Heck, the they gave her an Oscar over Emily Watson, Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchett. It’s like losing a belly flop competition to Calista Flockhart.

Don’t let the sarcasm get you down. Some actors still put their nose to the grindstone and get the job done. Prasad of SCREENART offers his view on Tom Hanks and other fine actors who put their bodies on the line and received an Oscar for their trouble.

Oh, if only The Academy Awards were always so fair.

Things don’t look good in the future. Read the report on AVANTNEWS. According to them, The 84th Academy Awards may not be the industry’s shining moment. Avant News is a great site with outstanding satire. Check them out.

Thanks for ruining the 2014 Academy Awards guys! Geez!

Speaking of spoiling stuff, we have some posts with hardcore spoilers in them. Do you want to know how the story ends? Read on.

ÉMIGRÉ has the lowdown on My Summer of Love. If you’re into plots, Émigré let’s you know everything you need to know about this film. After you’re done, kick around in the site for a while, you’ll find some fun posts.

Normally I advise reading RETHINK but today I’m advising reading RETHINK only if you have seen The Prestige. Ashok lays out a thoughtful post on Christopher Nolan’s latest film, but be warned – spoilers abound!

Actually, be a wise guy and read the spoilers and then go see the film with your friends and yell out the plot points before they happen.

For lack of a better way of segueing to the next entry…

Hey, speaking of seeing into the future…

One of my favorite film reviewers, Paul McElligott, puts his skills to the cheesy but still fascinating The Dead Zone where Christopher Walken can see what’s going to happen. If you haven’t read CELLULOID HEROES yet then you’re missing some of the best film reviews on the web.

To end today we’re heading to the front.

All’s Quiet on The Western Front is a stunning film even today. Henry Midgley of WESTMINSTER WISDOM provides a darn good look at this potent film. He proves that great posts can be identified by the great comments they inspire. Every blogger has moments that make the effort worthwhile – this is clearly one of his.

I can’t think of a better way to bring this week’s proceedings to a close.

…and CUT!…and PRINT!
