SURVIVING CHRISTMAS (2004)
| SHORT REVIEW: Having this film in your DVD collection is akin to wearing an “I’m With Stupid” t-shirt with the arrow pointing upward. Is it possible for anyone, anywhere to defend this heap? I cannot believe Dreamworks is legally able to but the label “comedy” on the DVD box and not get sued for false advertising. Ben Affleck has risen to the level of his talents, so I can’t get too upset with him. He’s a male model with a couple of good acting tricks up his sleeve that he has managed to hang a career on. It is obvious that while Affleck has some charisma, he hasn’t enough to lead a movie. He does manage to bring people in, but I expect that will not last much longer. The reason he broke into the A-List with Matt Damon instead of on his own is because that is where he is strongest, as a compliment, not as a main focus. Concerning the rest of the cast, well…everyone just stinks. There is little going on here and it appears that everyone knows it. No one in this production seems to be breaking their back with the pathetic script or the paper-thin characters they have been given. I can’t blame them for not putting themselves out over this sad film. Doing a great job on this film would be like being the reigning shuffleboard champion aboard the Titanic. Never watch this film. Not even on a dare.
