FOUR FEATHERS (2002)
| SHORT REVIEW: I kept looking at my watch. I found it to be far more interesting than what was on the screen. This film deals with cowardice. Coward is a word that is little used today. For you kids out there it is used to define someone who is selfish and frightened to commit and/or sacrifice for a common cause. In other words, it is a word that was once used to shame people for being liberals. Of course, today liberals have all but killed the term. Funny how they’ve done that to all of the language that defines them as being wrong. This film’s answer to cowardice is suicidal stupidity. After ducking behind his fiancée’s skirt to save his own neck, Heath Ledger’s character Harry goes on a personal journey of idiocy and self-hatred. He travels to Sudan alone and “proves” himself not to be a coward by sneaking around, almost dying, getting captured twice and playing dead to escape imprisonment. Sounds like bravery to me. Instead of doing your duty, its better to work alone, behind the scenes spreading confusion and forcing others to go out of their way to save you. Brilliant. This is based on what I understand to be a good novel. I’ve never read the book so I will reserve judgement. What I can say is this, leave it to our pantywaist artist class to come up with the notion that it is a sign of bravery to actively undermine the actions of the military. It’s a good thing that kind of thinking hasn’t infected our society in real life…oh wait. Categories: film, movie, DVD, review, Heath Ledger |
